FoodLore

a kitchen archive for families

Your family's recipes and stories, forever.

FoodLore keeps the dish, the photo and the story that came with it: who made it, where it came from, and the thing they always said at the stove. It lives on your phone, it's free, and you don't need an account.

How it works

Every recipe has a story. Keep both.

  1. 1

Write it down, story and all

Add a photo, the title, who it came from and where, the story behind it, and the line they always said. Then the ingredients and steps. Only the title is required, so you can start with a name and fill in the rest later.

  2. 2

    Scan the handwritten card

Photograph a recipe card in someone's own handwriting and FoodLore turns it into a draft you can edit. It reads the recipe; it never invents one, and you check every line before saving. A free account comes with three scan credits.

  3. 3

    Cook from it

Tick off ingredients as they go in and steps as they're done. Send one ingredient, or the whole list, to your shopping list. It's grouped by recipe, so you know what each thing is for.

The archive

A tin of recipe cards, not a feed.

FoodLore is built like the tin someone in your family kept by the stove: warm, a little worn, and full of names. Recipes open on the people and places behind them, then get out of the way when it's time to cook.

  • Search across titles, stories, regions and ingredients
  • Tag each dish with its cuisines and regions, from a list of 91
  • Works with no signal; your recipes are on the phone
  • Export your whole archive to a file whenever you like

Your recipes stay yours.

free, always

Private by default

The archive lives on your phone and works without an account. Your recipes are copied to the cloud only if you turn on backup. Scanning a card sends that one photo off to be read.
